Assessment and Screening

In most cases an assessment or screening is required to identify your child’s specific strengths and needs before any therapy is carried out.

Assessment may focus on a wide range of communication skills including attention and listening, understanding of language, expressive language, speech sounds, fluency and social skills.

Full assessment includes a case history, observations and completion of a range of dynamic informal and formal assessments where appropriate.

The purpose of assessment is to establish your child’s current strengths and needs, determine whether therapy is needed and the best course of action; deciding on the frequency and type of intervention required. It also provides a baseline from which therapy targets can be set and future progress measured.

Assessment and screening is charged at the standard hourly rate. Depending on your child’s needs, assessment usually takes between one and three sessions. A written report is available upon request.
